Overview

At TrackResults Software, I designed and implemented a comprehensive webhook system enabling real-time, bidirectional communication between internal components and external systems. The goal was to enhance integration capabilities and enable clients to build event-driven workflows and automations.

The Problem

No reliable way to notify external systems of data changes

Limited integration capabilities with third-party platforms

Tight coupling between internal components

No standardized event format or delivery mechanism

Lack of monitoring and retry mechanisms for failed events

The Solution

Built event-driven system for generating and sending webhooks

Implemented internal and external webhook handling

Designed standardized event payload structures

Added secure authentication and validation mechanisms

Implemented retry logic and failure handling

Architecture

Core Components

Event generation layer (triggered by system activities)Webhook delivery service (async processing)Internal event listener for service-to-service communicationExternal webhook receiver for third-party integrationsMonitoring and tracking system

Technical Design

Queue-based processing for async delivery
Retry mechanisms for failed webhook attempts
Signature verification for incoming requests
Configurable event subscriptions and filtering
